Luscious Lashes After All

The doctors and the media told me that I would loose my hair. Going bold, not such a big deal, hair grows back, they said. They never told me that I would loose my eyelashes and eyebrows. It really hurt my feelings and my eyes. Amazing how different the world looks without eyelashes! The sun and other debris that would fall seamlessly in to my eyes constantly blinded me. I never realized how important those two patches of hair are. I just thought they were for looks. LOL Bold was OK, I solved it with big earrings and lots of make up, no problem. But then I lost my eyelashes, where was I going to put the make up!?  And then the eyebrows went away. I didn’t have a face! I was pale, my cheeks sank in, burnt skin…OK, I am sick and this is part of the process. If I get to get my hair back, I will get my eyelashes and eyebrows too, right? Wrong!

I used to have long luscious eyelashes, and thick black eyebrows. What I got back was pitiful. My eyelashes were coming back very thin, short, and they were growing every which way. Nothing to do with how I had seen them last; I tried to apply mascara and it only made it worse, it showed how crooked they were, some of them looking up, some others going directly inside of my eyes. No way, this was not good: I was mad! But not for long; I could not afford to be mad, I had to get crafty: I found out about a secret that women in my country have used for a long time, way before there was commercial make up.

Women in Spain and Portugal, and I imagine many other areas of the world, have been applying castor oil to their lashes for centuries to make them grow thicker, so I decided to give it a try: I checked out the components and what it does to the body and I found out all kinds of good things. Castor oil is good for the skin, as is packed with vitamins, so what the hell, lets give it a try.

I did additional research and found out that castor oil, even though is good for your skin and hair, hurts if it drips in to your eyes. That was not part of my plan. Teary eyes are not my idea of an attractive feature. So I went to the mixing table once again. I found out there are different oils, such as avocado, almond, and grape seed, to add vitamins and minerals to the concoction and make it easier on the eyes. And I came up with this recipe, which works great. And in the event I would ever get a drop in to my eyes, it is just a nuisance that can be washed out with water or cooled chamomile infusion.

I went to my local organic store and got some organic castor oil, along with the additional oils suggested by some natural health sites. I mixed them and applied the resulting oil to the upper and lower rim of my eyes. I also used it on my skimpy eyebrows.

60% Castor oil and the other 30% a solution of grape seed, avocado and sweet almond oil mixed in equal parts.

I now use it as a make up remover and eyelash toner. The skin around my eyes, as well as lashes and brows love it. My eyelashes are thicker and longer, and they grow naturally curling up, not more lashes in my eyes. My brows are thicker and I don’t get baggy eye circles any longer. I don’t even need to use mascara if I don’t want to, the lashes are getting thick enough that they rim my eyes dark and luscious. I have been using it as body oil, and many times as my night cream.

Would you give it a try? Let me know what you think about it, or if you have come up with your own recipe
